    One of the consequences of the black-hole "no-hair" theorem in general relativity (GR) is that gravitational radiation (quasi-normal modes) from a perturbed Kerr black hole is uniquely determined by its mass and spin. Thus, the spectrum of quasi-normal mode frequencies have to be all consistent with the same value of the mass and spin. Similarly, the gravitational radiation from a coalescing binary black hole system is uniquely determined by a small number of parameters (masses and spins of the black holes and orbital parameters). Thus, consistency between different spherical harmonic modes of the radiation is a powerful test that the observed system is a binary black hole predicted by GR. We formulate such a test, develop a Bayesian implementation, demonstrate its performance on simulated data and investigate the possibility of performing such a test using previous and upcoming gravitational wave observations

    Assessment of Biomass and Carbon Stock along Altitudes in Traditional Agroforestry System in Tehri District of Uttarakhand, India

    Agroforestry represents an integration of agriculture and forestry to increase productivity and sustainability of farming systems and farm income. It has been recognized as carbon sinks due to the need of climate change mitigation. The objective of this study was to compare the carbon stock in living biomass between altitudes and agroforestry system in Tehri district, Uttarakhand. The system compared was: Agrihortisilviculture system (Trees, crops and fruits), Agrihorticulture system (Trees and Fruits) and Agrisilviculture system (Trees and crops.). 1350 sample plots were selected in three altitudes. Three altitudes were: Lower (286-1200 m), Middle (1200-2000 m) and Upper (2000-2800 m). Results indicated that carbon was influenced by the altitudes. Carbon stock in the lower altitude (286-1200 m) was higher compared to the middle and upper altitudes. Agrihortisilviculture system contained maximum carbon stock compare than other system. It is concluded that agroforestry systems are playing an important role in the biodiversity conservation, soil enrichment and carbon storage in Tehri district of Uttarakhand

    A Study on Physical Activity and Obesity amongst Secondary School Children

    ABSTRACT The combination of inactivity and surplus calories contributes to abnormal blood lipids, elevated Blood pressure, Obesity and Diabetes. To find out the proportion of obesity and overweight among school children and to find the level of physical activity. This study was conducted among the selected schools of Bangalore city, 1203 high school students were interviewed of which 600 students were from government schools another 603 were from private schools. Levels of physical activity and Body mass index was measured Adequate physical activity was seen among 445(37%) of the study subjects. Adequate level of physical activity found among 8, 9 and 10 standards are 165(41.4%), 160(41%) and 120(29%) respectively. The difference of physical activity observed was found to be statistically highly significant (P < 0.001). The proportion of overweight and obesity among the study subjects was 55(4.6%) and 25(2.1%) respectively. Among the overweight subjects 30(54.5%) were females and 25(45.5%) were males. Obesity was seen among 19(76%) of males and 6(24%) of females. The observed difference is statistically significant (P = 0.03). Implementing State educational policies that seek to promote the physical well-being of children is the need of the hour

    Analysis on superhydrophobic silver decorated copper Oxide nanostructured thin films for SERS studies

    The present work demonstrates the superhydrophobic and Surface Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy (SERS) active substrate performance of silver coated copper oxide (Ag@CuO) nanostructured thin films prepared by the SILAR process. Super hydrophobic substrates that combine super hydrophobic condensation effect and high enhancement ability of Ag@CuO nanoflowers are investigated for SERS studies. The possible growth mechanism for the formation of nanoflower arrays from nanospindles has been discussed. Morphology and crystallinity of the Ag@CuO thin films are confirmed using FESEM and XRD. The results obtained in the present study indicate that the as-deposited hydrophobic nanospindles structure converts to super hydrophobic nanoflower arrays on annealing at 200 degrees C. The Ag@CuO super hydrophobic nanoflowers thin film based SERS substrates show highly enhanced Raman spectra with an EF value of 2.0 x 10(7) for (Rhodamine 6G) R6G, allowing a detection limit from a 10(-10) mol L-1 solution. The present study may provide a new perception in fabricating efficient super hydrophobic substrates for SERS, suggesting that the fabricated substrates are promising candidates for trace analysis of R6G dye and are expected to be widely used as highly sensitive SERS active substrates for various toxic dyes in the future.
